Being a core element in the Florida dance community, the third part of Thesis are the battles. Dancers from all different cities, backgrounds, training, and experiences come in and exchange ideals that can only be understood through the physical form. Thesis holds both a Open Style and Bboy 1on1 battle. Both being completely freestyle, the dancers show their musicality on the spot as the dj spins a wide range of different music throughout the night. The battles begin with preliminary showcase where the top 16 (32 if necessary) get selected by the judges. Then the dancers battle it out bracket style until there is one winner of each category. Winners go home with a cash prize of nearly $1000, clothing from our sponsors, a custom made trophy and most of all the respect of the community. This is one of the biggest attractions for Thesis just because of the energy that exudes from the building at all times. You never know what you’ll see!

Program:
Saturday. Jan 7th
Day one of the event consists of a showcase with performances by some of the best talent that the Florida Dance Community (Sarasota, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa, etc.) has to offer in addition to groups from outside of the state including Philadelphia, Atlanta, Arizona, New York, Chicago, and California. This showcase will truly be an amazing display of creativity and love through all things dance. The show will consist of choreography, freestyle, exhibition battles and will have cyphers all night. If you have never been to an urban dance showcase before then this is the event to go to! This event is one of the most important because it gives the community an opportunity to not only be together but also watch the talent inside of itself but also gain inspiration from those outside of the community. Though it is a show, it is often referred to as a celebration of dance, culture and arts.

The second day of Thesis is split between two events beginning with a four class workshop with styles varying in styles including House, Hip Hop Choreography, and Krump and Hip Hop grooves /Freestyle technique, and Chicago Footwork. With teachers from all over the United States, alongside the movement, each teacher has a message they would like to pass on to the students and hope to inspire and ignite something in each dancer who attends. These are NOT classes you wanna miss in the slightest.
